Gawler Greyhound Racing- Friday 29/05/2020 Golly Gum Drops Makes it 2 from 2 at Gawler for Adam Manton
Friday was a beautiful Autumn day just before winter set in for the weekend. One of the surprise packets over the last couple of weeks has been Golly Gum Drops who has recently taken over training by Adam Manton. Owner/Trainer Petar Jovanovic recently contacted Adam asking if he would take over training a couple of his Greyhounds as he had a number of pups coming through. Adam and partner Jane were only able to take on one of the 2 offered and choses Gully Gum Drops who had been reared at their property as a pup.
Golly Gum drops had returned to racing recently after recovering from a should strain and looked to be returning to full strength. Adam brought her down to Gawler for an early morning trial a few weeks ago where she performed well. He nominated Golly Gum Drops in the 400metre maiden race on the 22nd of May where she ran a excellent time of 22.92 to win her race. Adam again nominated for this week just gone and Golly Gum Drops left them for dead over the 400m Grade 6 race, pinging to the front and was never going to be challenged and won in a time of 22.72seconds which was the best of the day.
She has the blood lines out of Worm Burner and Psychotic Gold and is the sister of Wooden Tiger(Owner/Trainer P Jovanovic) who is a distance dog and performed well over the 700m race on Thursday night at Angle Park. She steps up to the 531metre distance this coming Friday in a breeder’s challenge series and it will be interesting to see how she shapes up over that distance. Given her breeding she should be ok.
Adam said that he has been extremely pleased to take her on and is surprised by just how good she is, 2 wins from 2 starts under Adam would certainly be making him happy.
Racing can be viewed on Sky each day, although some restrictions to Covid 19 have been lifted for Pubs and Clubs, racing is still a closed venue for the coming period and we hope that as restrictions ease over the coming month(s) we will be able to have the public back to enjoy what is a great day out at Gawler.
