Gawler Greyhounds raced Tuesday and Sunday this week with great weather on Tuesday and some wet and showery conditions on Sunday night.
Race 5 Nixon’s Function Centre mixed stake over 400m was the fastest run race for the day with Don Turners Mister Okay winning in a time of 22.64seconds. Averaging a speed of 50km an hour Mister Okay jumped 2nd behind Natural Fury trained by Tony Hinrichsen. Down the back straight Mister Okay turned on the speed and shot to the lead winning by 5.75 lengths ahead of Victa Jack trained by Ron Schadow.
Race 7 Bunyip Mixed Stake over 531m had Baa Man owned by the Black Sheep Syndicate and trained by Karen Wittholz jumped out of box 1 to take the lead ahead of Rosco Fields trained by Don Turner. Baa Man was never really headed and Rosco Fields tired in the last 50metres to be beaten for 2nd place by Heading My Way trained by Troy Murray. Baa man finished in a time of 31.04seconds, 1.5 lengths ahead of Heading My Way.
Race 2 Michealkris Real Estate Stake over 400m on Sunday saw a closely run race with Tony Lagana’s greyhound Luke Tyson holding out Tony Hinrichsen’s- Lockey Swift to win by a head, finishing 3rd by only ½ a length was Untapped Fury also trained by Tony Hinrichsen. Lockey Swift jumped well to take the lead with Luke Tyson in hot pursuit on the home turn Luke Tyson took the lead with Untapped Fury making a late charge. All 3 greyhounds crossing the line with only .03 of a second separating them.
Race 9 Gawler Dry Cleaners saw another closely run race, with the drizzly conditions the times had slowed a little. The outside box favoured La Rosquilla trained by Karon Blakemore. La Rosquilla jumped well taking the lead ahead of Mersey Ferry trained by Steve Brook and Terranora trained by Kevin Bewely. Mersey Ferry caught La Rosquilla’s heels causing her to drop back leaving an opening for Afterglow trained by John Mundy to move up. Moving into the home straight no 6 Stir Crazy trained by Chairman Mike Wittholz flew home to take 3rd position behind La Rosquilla and Afterglow.
