FACILITY UPDATE (9th January 2015)
There have been some unexpected delays to the construction of the new facility, and as a result, racing is not expected to resume at the track until February.
Newly appointed Club Manager, Shawn Noack, has been busy learning about the greyhound industry and putting all the necessary arrangements in place for a successful opening of the facility. A new and expanded menu is being developed, which will cater for visitors, as well as industry participants. The new food and beverage offering, together with the brand new building and fittings, will offer regulars and visitors a terrific new experience.
It is anticipated that the opening night and the prestigious Gawler Gold Cup will be held on Sunday night, 15th February.
Keep up to date as we construct our brand new grandstand.
“Construction is well underway (as at 13 October), with the project on schedule to be completed by Christmas 2014”
Gawler Redevelopment
GRSA is currently in the final stages of planning for the Gawler redevelopment project. The long overdue facility upgrades at the showgrounds site are set to commence in the coming weeks. After much planning in recent months, it will be exciting to see the development finally come to fruition.
The new development will involve the demolition of the many dilapidated buildings on site and include the following components:
Elevated 150 seat patron facility, including tote facilities, office, kitchen, toilets and committee room
Large ground level maintenance and storage area which allows for future development
Extension to the existing kennel house to incorporate a new Stewards room, 12th kennel bay, a unisex toilet and storage areas
New Judges/Stewards Tower
Large outdoor patron viewing area in between the new building and the kennel house
Landscaping, car parking improvements and general site beautification
Racing will continue through the construction period and preparations have begun on site to ensure participants are adequately serviced during this period. The current bar and canteen area will remain in place and in operation throughout the project and the Tattsbet mobile tote caravan will be located on site to enable on-course betting. The Stewards room will be temporarily located in the current greyhound office and the maintenance area will be relocated to several other buildings in the showgrounds precinct.
GRSA will continue to conduct race meetings at the venue during the project. Whilst every effort will be made to minimise the impact on participants, the circumstances may arise wherein it may be necessary to transfer race meetings and trial sessions at short notice. Participants should be prepared for these potential disruptions.
A formal announcement regarding the development will be made following the finalisation of some commercially sensitive matters.
