Gawler Greyhounds- G-Six racing 03/05/2019

Gawler Greyhound Racing Club its first G-Six race meeting on Friday with a 12 race card. The G-Six concept is being trialled by Greyhound Racing SA at the tracks around SA for a 3 month period- Angle Park, Gawler and Mt Gambier are part of the trial. The strategy is to continue to improve the safety of a race for the Greyhound by limiting the traditional 8 box field to six in turn removing interference that can cause injury whilst increasing the number of races per meeting up to the maximum number of 12. This will ensure that trainers and owners are given every opportunity to race their greyhounds and potentially collect prize money and from the punters perspective they will have more races to be able to invest in. Overall a great initiative!

Benny Rawlings certainly enjoyed the Race format at Gawler on Friday with 3 of the 4 greyhounds he had running finishing in 1st place. The first of his winners was in Race 1 number 1 over the 400m- Dictation jumped well with No Not Yet trained by Ray Barkla just taking the lead. Emerley Hummer trained by Judi Hurley was hot on their tails and challenged Dictation all the way through to the finish line. Dictation finishing in a time of 23.15seconds.

Bens 2nd winner came in race 2 with Miss Takiri(pictured) jumped well and lead for the entire race. Dennis(owner- pictured) was very pleased with  the run and Miss Takiri’s win.

Race 7 was the 3rd of Bens wins for the day with Alicante Bouchet taking the line honours in the best time of the day over 400m, 22.62seconds. Crazy Again trained by Des Hockley jumped well taking the lead but was soon caught by Alicante and from there no other greyhound could get close to Alicante who won by almost 5 lengths.

We race again this coming Friday(twilight) and Tuesday(day) we have the bar and kitchen open and are having some great specials along the way. Check the race guide for start times and our facebook page for the weekly like and share
