A promising young greyhound scored a win at his first attempt at the Gawler circuit on Tuesday.

Drawn in box 8 over the 531m journey, Hesa Marlow was away well but in third place behind leader Rachel Zane (4) and Larrikin Locky (3). On the back turn Hesa Marlow made his run, needing to make up a 3 length deficit. He was able to pass Rachel Zane as they cornered into the home straight, going on to win by nearly 3 lengths in the time of 31.02 secs. Rachel Zane held on to second spot for Kim Johnstone of Two Wells, while Cris Tyson rattled home well for third after being back some 10 lengths at one stage, for Tony Lagana of Gawler.

Hesa Marlow has now 4 wins, including some fast wins at Angle Park, and 4 placings against his name from just 11 starts. Trained at Two Wells by Len Wilson for Tony Milligan, Hesa Marlow is a member of a litter that has shown good signs. Tony Milligan bred the litter from Amity Kinship, who had only one race start for a fast win at Gawler, before injuring herself and then being retired. Tony Milligan had been looking for a good breeding female and when the opportunity came to secure Amity Kinship he jumped at it.  Len Wilson had bought 2 of the litter, and when Tony was looking for a trainer for his pups, it was logical to seek out Len Wilson.

Len Wilson can trace his early involvement to being a part owner of a greyhound in the first race meeting at Angle Park. He had a break at one stage, but later decided to take up training with a small team. Len Wilson has had his fair share of winners, and his greatest enjoyment comes from the challenge of “making a poor performer good”. Now that Hesa Marlow has overcome some minor injuries which had hampered his fitness and training, the track ahead should be rewarding.

Troy Murray and Nicole Price shared the training honours, each with a double. Troy Murray won with Aston Mondo and Aston Amon in successive races, while Nicole Price repeated that in the last 2 races of the day with Penny Maker and Sheeza Nitro.

Experience close up racing action at Gawler every Tuesday afternoon and Sunday twilight, while enjoying an excellent meal in our facility.
