Eden Valley based couple Jan and Tony Jones have an exciting greyhound litter on their hands, with one of the litter winning at Gawler on Tuesday.
In a Mixed Grade 4/5 Stake over 531m, their runner High Eden Frost, in box 5, was away well but was headed by Bogie Miracle (6). The two greyhounds opened up a break over the rest of the field, with Bogie Miracle holding a handy two length margin over High Eden Frost. Near the 643m boxes, High Eden Frost made his move around Bogie Miracle, and went on to win by just over a length in the time of 30.87 secs. Bogie Miracle ran a good race to finish second for Ben Rawlings of Lewiston, with Sheez Stunning (8) running third for Richard Pearce of Gawler River.
Jan Jones trains High Eden Frost, which is raced in partnership with husband Tony Jones. Jan Jones reported that they had ordered two pups from a long-time friend in Victoria. Jan Jones was originally attracted to the litter by the sire, Banjo Boy, a greyhound that Jan Jones considered to be a hard chaser. The mother, Zardae, had won four races, so when Jan Jones was offered a third pup from the litter, she jumped at the chance. Reared at their Eden Valley property from four months of age, the litter has achieved considerable success. High Eden Frost has a record of 10 wins and 5 places from 19 starts, High Eden Snow has had 18 starts for 11 wins and 5 places, and Dream A Little has had 26 starts for 10 wins and 11 placings. And not a bad effort from High Eden Frosta, who Jan Jones said didn’t break in that well.
Unable to secure any pups from the repeat mating, Jan and Tony Jones have purchased three pups from another litter. Jan and Tony retain all their retirees, and with the racing dogs, that keeps them pretty busy. Jan and Tony Jones are hoping to nominate the team for the rich Gawler Produce series, which will be run in late June. Jan’s enjoyment is gained from seeing all the hard work being fulfilled, which is certainly paying off.
Distance races are not that common at Gawler these days, but two were run at the meeting this week. Lester Harris provided the winner Destini Surfer in the first event, with Robyn Mackellar scoring with Inequity in the next race.
Don’t forget there is racing every Tuesday afternoon and Sunday twilight at Gawler. With exciting racing and excellent meals, you are on a winner.
